What our members are saying....

"... my favourite event - it's the garden tours, even though I know they must be very time consuming to set up and orchestrate, they are the best. When I can see what others are doing, and get ideas from other gardeners, it's great. Also the fact that they allow us strangers into their gardens to share their passion is wonderful. I just wish I could get them to come and see my garden, but I don't think that will happen. I am most impressed and can relate to the gardens that are owner created and maintained, instead of some of the huge, beautiful, and showy gardens that would have to be maintained by a gardening service.  Also, the spring bulb sale and plant exchange are a great way to encourage gardeners to participate and share. Please keep up the good work." -- Joyce C (April 2013)

"We really enjoy the garden tours.  They are very interesting and provide great ideas." -- Janine R. (Apr 2013)

"Have enjoyed all the sessions since I joined in March!! Amazing Seedy Saturday, was so pleased as [it was] really a garden show!! Next yr , will plan to attend the entire day so not to miss the early session speakers!! Loved the seed purchase in my case, as I did not have a chance to bring seeds to swap but will next yr!! I have been very fortunate over the yrs to be my child's elementary school gardener , to have met Al and Hugat who helped us get our peace garden so beautiful!! Dr Darrington 's session was really helpful ... Loved Mary Ann's very helpful advice at the seed swap, and my Catapula seeds germinated as per her suggestion to freeze the seeds before sowing! Thanks to all!! Looking forward to meeting many more members and gardens!!" -- Tammy B. (Apr 2013)

"I wanted to say how much Edel and I enjoyed the summer garden tours and especially the one last night. The gardens were exceptional and the hospitality wonderful at Carol and Sandi's gardens. We raved about our evening all the way home!!  ... [A]ll the added activities and programmes over the years ... have ... made such a difference to the KHS and created an organization well worth belonging to. What amazing value for just $10!!!!" -- Anne M. (Aug 2012).

"Just want you to know that the last garden tour around Forest Heights was wonderful. I have been going on tours for three years and this was the best.  Great gardens, food, wine, cheese....thanks for a memorable experience!!" -- David G. (Aug 2012)

"I have a special Saturday in May that I look forward to each year and it is has become a tradition for us (mainly me).  It is the Kitchener Hort Society's annual bulb sale at Rockway Gardens. ...  You must be a member to participate but at $10.00 single membership or $15.00 family membership it is worth it.  This also covers the garden tours (2009 was especially well done) and support this hard working group. I have been a member for a long time and have only missed a few bulb sales due to being incapacitated with back problems. I get up at 6.a.m. and head off to Kitchener and line up for the opening where you pick up your number in the queue and renew or join the membership.  According to the number you get (lower number would be better) this gives you an idea of where you stand in picking up the favourites. You can then leave and go for breakfast and return at the opening of the sale at 9.a.m.or later if you have a high number in the line-up. There will be 12,000 bulbs in 27 varieties for sale for $2.00 a dozen! All imported directly from Holland. These bulbs are previously enjoyed and on display at Rockway Gardens for the ... [previous] season. I have been saturated with bulbs some years as you always pick up what is left over too (if the ones you wanted sold out earlier) and then I would distribute to friends and  neighbours.  I still admire them in other people's gardens.  I think I will take this up again in my newer neighbour hood...let's see how these neighbour's accept this crazy lady handing out bulbs to beautify the neighbourhood. I will let you know." -- Maggie O (May 2010).
