Garden Tour - August 22, 2019

Our fourth and final tour is at Doon Heritage Village (10 Huron Road) in the Doon area of Kitchener.  
Bob Wildfong will lead a tour of the four gardens of Doon Heritage Village. Come learn about and enjoy how gardening and farming was done 100 years ago back in 1914.After the informative and entertaining tour light refreshments will be served. Registration is required. Space is limited.
Martin Farm Garden
This garden is a traditional "four-square" kitchen garden that provided fruits and vegetables to the family . The four-square design symbolizes the garden of Eden.
McArthur House Garden
With the help of photographs this garden is planted as it was back in 1914. There are shrubs, perennial flowers, asparagus, rhubarb and many useful herbs.
Siebert House Garden
This house has an ornamental garden that the lady of the house would proudly show to her guests. A mulberry tree at the back of the house provides shade for several kinds of forest and riparian wildflowers and ferns.
Sararas-Bricker House
The long row garden of this farm provided abundant supply of vegetables and fruits including several heritage apple varieties.This garden represents an up-to-date 1914 kitchen garden of a farm.
Flowers were planted to give farm a prosperous and well maintained look. Herbs, such as winter savoury, hyssop and lemon balm, were grown near the kitchen to be handy for Mrs. Sararas
