About Darren Heimbecker

Darren is the founder and designer of Whistling Gardens in Wilsonville, Ontario – a 22-acre botanical garden home to North America’s largest public peony and conifer collections. After an 18-year career in the nursery industry, Darren and his wife Wanda turned a 56-acre farm into one of Canada’s most celebrated private gardens, known for its award-winning plant collections and spectacular fountain shows choreographed to original music.

Whistling Gardens has received numerous local, national, and international accolades for horticultural excellence, innovation, and design. Darren’s work has earned him recognition as one of Garden Making Magazine’s “20 Canadians Shaping Our Future Gardens,” and he continues to share his passion through writing, composing, and speaking engagements across the country.
