Dear Councillors,
The City of Kitchener is planning to install a multi-use path through Rockway Gardens, over the grassed area alongside Floral Crescent, with bump-outs that would remove the ability to park on the road. This is part of the City’s Rockway Fairway Transportation Connections project. Detailed information is available at https://www.engagewr.ca/rockway-fairway.
I am writing to oppose the City’s preferred route. This route would threaten historic trees, structures, and dedicated plantings in memory of community members, disrupt popular community spaces for events and photography, and put staff, volunteers, and visitors – who are often distracted as they explore the gardens – at risk of colliding with fast-moving cyclists, e-scooters, and e-bikes.
I urge Council to instead support GardenKitchener’s suggested alternate route, which would route the trail along the grassed area by Charles Street. This alternative achieves the City’s cycling and pedestrian goals while preserving the safety, heritage, and community value of Rockway Gardens. Detailed information is available at http://www.kitchenerhs.ca/reroute.
Please support the route that allows more people – including those using the multi-use path – to discover and enjoy one of Kitchener’s most historic and cherished green spaces.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
