What is Seedy Saturday?

Guided by Canadian charitable organization, Seeds of Diversity, the Kitchener-Waterloo Seedy Saturday seed swap invites members of our gardening community to exchange home-grown seeds, attend seminars, and connect with each other!

Seed swaps are fair-like events where growers exchange seeds from plants that they have grown themselves. Growing crops from home-grown seeds helps prevent the extinction of garden-variety species and in turn, protects the planet’s biodiversity. It’s also cost-effective and a ton of fun!

The first Seedy Saturday seed swap was held in 1990 in Vancouver. Today, there are over 100 Seedy Saturday and Sunday events across Canada, each year!

And reminder: if you don’t have seeds to swap, that’s okay too! There are lots of vendors selling a diverse range of high quality seeds and plants on site. This is the perfect place for beginner gardeners to start their season – choose a few new seeds to try, ask gardening experts for advice, then pop in to listen to a seminar or two!

Seminars start at 10:00 a.m.!

Join us in the KPL Central Library’s Theatre for an exciting day of learning. No tickets necessary, and FREE for everyone!
